Bennett leads SE Louisiana past Jacksonville 44-3

HAMMOND, La. (AP) — Bryan Bennett threw two touchdown passes and ran for another and Southeastern Louisiana beat Jacksonville 44-3 on Saturday night in the season opener for both teams.

Bennett threw a career-best 89-yard touchdown pass to Dylan Bossier and ran for another career-high 83-yard score to put Southeastern Louisiana up 27-0 in the first quarter. Bennett also connected with Rasheed Harrell on a 73-yarder to make it 37-3 early in the third quarter.

Bennett was 11 of 16 for 311 yards and had seven carries for 93 yards. Darrius Guy and Xavier Roberson each ran for touchdowns and Micah Eugene scored on a 3-yard fumble recovery.

Jacksonville’s Kade Bell was 19 of 50 for just 149 yards and did not throw an interception. The Dolphins’ lone points came on a 33-yard field goal by Brandon Behr in the second quarter.
