WASHINGTON –A satantic group out to prove that it has as much religious freedom and free speech as anyone else, is nearly finished with a seven-foot tall, horned bronzed figure of Baphomet, often used as a satantic idol — and they want it placed on the lawn in front of the Oklahoma State Capitol.
While observers say they don’t have much of a chance, a group identifying itself as The Satanic Temple, which raised $28,000 on the crowdsourcing site Indiegogo to commission the sculptor, want to prove a point: that the goat-headed idol has as much right to be there as a highly controversial monument of the Ten Commandments donated by a state legislator in 2012 and placed outside the capitol.
Satanic Temple spokesperson Lucian Greaves tells ABC News that the statue is a symbol to “celebrate our progress as a pluralistic nation founded on secular law.” The group will use Baphomet to protest other secular symbols on public spaces across the country, according to The Verge website.
