Runners detour race to thank cheering 95-year-old veteran (Video)

WASHINGTON — An inspiring charity race in California became even more touching when runners trotted off course to thank a 95-year-old veteran.

Joe Bell, a World War II veteran, came out in his full uniform and supported runners in the 8-kilometer 408K Race to the Row in San Jose, Calif., Sunday.

The runners applauded Bell and many ran off the course to shake his hand and thank him for his service, according to San Jose Mercury News.

The annual race benefits the Pat Tillman Foundation, which invests in military veterans and their spouses through scholarships.
