6:50 a.m. Gubernatorial hopeful Heather Mizeur set to visit polling places at Friendship Heights Village Center, Whitman High School, North Bethesda Middle School and Kensington-Parkwood Elementary School this morning after she votes in her home of Takoma Park.

6:45 a.m. How close could some of our local races end up? In 2010, District 16 Del. Ariana Kelly captured the third Democratic nomination with 5,129 votes, just 356 more votes than next closest vote-getter Kyle Lierman. Hrant Jamgochian, running again this year, got 3,254 votes.

6:20 a.m. Incumbent District 1 Councilmember Roger Berliner appears to be expecting a victory over challenger Duchy Trachtenberg tonight. Berliner is hosting an election night party from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. at Positano on Fairmont Avenue, the same place he hosted a campaign kickoff fundraiser in April.

5:45 a.m. The Washington Post editorial board says Maryland should try again to keep the primary in September. Many are worried about low voter turnout Tuesday and the early June date for the primary is part of that. School is over and people take vacations. Maryland and many other jurisdictions moved the primary away from its traditional September date because of a new federal law that requires absentee ballots are mailed 45 days in advance of federal elections in November. Still, five states have managed to keep their primaries in September.
