Wind gusts reaching as high as 60 miles per hour are causing power outages throughout the D.C. area on Wednesday night, including in spots around Bethesda and Potomac.

At 10:30 p.m. Pepco reported about 1,100 customers are without power in neighborhoods near Falls Road and Democracy Boulevard in Potomac. There were also 313 customers without power because of an outage in the vicinity of Beech Tree Road, near River Road in Bethesda and another 116 without power because of an outage near Cindy Lane and Honeybee Lane just outside the Beltway in Potomac.

There are significant power outages in other areas of the county too — about 1,300 customers were without power in Gaithersburg and a transformer explosion in Wheaton meant power outages there and in parts of Silver Spring.

Pepco’s outage map has the latest information, including estimated power restoration times, outage causes and how many people have reported the outage.
