100-person brawl outside of Gaithersburg restaurant

GAITHERSBURG, Md. – A serious fight involving about 100 people broke out at a restaurant in Gaithersburg early Sunday morning, according to Montgomery County police.

Police say a man was shot and five others were stabbed during the fight at the New Red Rock Cafe in the Festival Shopping center around 1:30 Sunday morning. They were all taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

In addition, a woman suffered cuts and a male was struck with a blunt object. Others with injuries refused treatment.

Officers say they saw a fight involving about 100 people in the parking lot when they arrived.

“The officers were able to establish a perimeter, and bring the situation under control,” says Lucille Baur, a police spokeswoman. “Many individuals fled from the scene once police arrived.”

Police say they were able to bring the situation under control, but witnesses and participants in the fight weren’t cooperative in providing suspect information.

The cafe advertised a special Rapper Karaoke Night that attracted a large audience from across the D.C. area. The fight is believed to have started between women inside the cafe, and then carried over to the parking lot where it escalated and several men joined in.

County police and Gaithersburg City police are still investigating. They have not identified any suspects or have any suspect descriptions.

Anyone with information is asked to call 240-773-6237.
