Maine edges Towson 27-24 with last-minute TD pass

TOWSON, Md. (AP) — Daniel Collins threw a 37-yard touchdown pass to Jordan Dunn with 52 seconds left to lift Maine to a 27-24 victory over Towson in the Colonial Athletic Association opener for both teams on Saturday night.

Collins and Dunn connected with a 1-yard score, and Nigel Beckford had two touchdown runs from inside the 5 to give the Black Bears a 20-10 halftime lead.

Connor Frazier threw a 1-yard touchdown pass to Zack Vogelei to pull Towson within 20-17 late in the third quarter, and the Tigers took a 24-20 lead with 4:16 remaining when Darius Victor punched it in from the 1 to cap a 10-play, 60-yard drive.

Sam Hurwitz missed a 45-yard field goal attempt for Towson (2-3, 0-1) with 4:05 to play before Collins’ game-winning TD pass to Dunn for Maine (2-2, 1-0).
