Swimmer rescued after being caught in riptide

OCEAN CITY, Md. (AP) — Officials in Ocean City say a swimmer is hospitalized after being rescued from a rip current.

Town spokeswoman Jessica Waters say three swimmers got caught in a riptide about 4:30 p.m. Monday near the 137th Street beach. The Ocean City Beach Patrol says one of its lifeguards was able to rescue two of the swimmers, but the third could not be immediately found.

Eventually the missing was swimmer was found, a police department spokeswoman said.

The swimmer, identified only as being an 18-year-old man Montgomery County, was taken to Atlantic General Hospital in Berlin.
