OAKTON, Va. — That blanket forgotten in the back of the closet or stuffed in a storage bin under the bed could keep someone in need warm this winter.
With winter on the way, the 1.6 million Syrian refugees huddling in camps, parks and streets of neighboring Turkey will need blankets. And Northern Virginians have a chance to help.
Students at Pinnacle Academy in Oakton have joined hands with local elected leaders in a drive to collect blankets for the refugees. Paxton Van Lines will carry them to port, free of charge, for shipment to Turkey.
Organizers hope to collect 100,000 blankets or more between Nov. 1 and Nov. 22.
