WASHINGTON — An Uber cab driver has been arrested for second-degree sexual assault of a passenger.
D.C. police have charged 31-year-old Reshad Chakari, who lives in Alexandria. Chakari was released on bond, but cannot work for Uber or any cab service until his case is complete.
A woman reported the incident, which occurred along the 1400 block of Rhode Island Ave. in Northwest, on July 20 to D.C. police.
Chakari will be back in court on August 6.
In a written statement, Uber’s Taylor Bennett says Chakari’s driver account has been suspended and Uber is ready to assist in the investigation.
Bennett says the matter is being treated with the utmost urgency and care.
Chakari is free on bond, has been forced to surrender his passport, and may not work as a driver for hire for Uber or anyone else right now.
Chakari has been arraigned in DC Superior Court.
