WASHINGTON — With Independence Day just around the corner, the nation’s capital was recently ranked in the top 10 cities for citizens looking for a fun time without hurting their wallets.

Personal finance website WalletHub compared 100 cities on their Fourth of July celebrations, ranking cost and entertainment factors. The website, which compares cities on a variety of issues from tax burdens to the best place to have a staycation, used factors ranging from food services per capita, price of three-star hotels in the area and food and drink prices.

The District ranked fifth on the list, scoring well on attractions and outdoor activities, walkability and the high number of swimming pools, among other factors. Richmond, Virginia was first on the list, while Baltimore came in at 17.
