Police investigating fatal crash in Maryland

WASHINGTON — Multiple lanes of southbound I-95 in Prince George’s County are closed as Maryland State Police investigate a fatal traffic crash involving three vehicles.

A man driving a motorcycle was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Maryland State Police. He is not being identified until his family is notified. No one in the other two vehicles involved was injured.

Just after 7 p.m. Saturday, Maryland State Police at the College Park Barrack were called to the scene of a traffic crash near southbound I-95 south of Rt. 212 in Prince Georges County. Arriving troopers found three vehicles involved in the crash.

A 2003 Suzuki GSX-R 600 motorcycle was traveling at a high speed southbound on I- 95. The motorcycle struck a southbound Volkswagen, causing the motorcycle operator to lose control. The motorcycle operator was ejected and landed on the travel portion of the highway. He was then struck by a southbound tractor trailer.

The two lanes on the extreme right of southbound I-95 remain open to through traffic. The other lanes have been closed due to the crash cleanup and the ongoing investigation. Lanes are expected to remain closed for the next several hours.

State Highway Administration personnel are on the scene with arrow boards directing traffic around the closed lanes.

The crash is still under investigation.
