Astronauts play soccer in space

WASHINGTON — Brazil isn’t the only place soccer is being played this week.

High above Earth – 230 miles, to be exact – astronauts at the International Space Station recorded a good luck video for their home countries and took some time to enjoy the beautiful game in zero gravity.

The video features United States astronauts Reid Wiseman and Steve Swanson and German astronaut Alexander Gerst. Credit Swanson with the impressive bicycle kicks.

In a twist of fate, the U.S. and Germany will play each other, with potentially huge implications for both teams trying to advance out of Group G and into the round of 16. The astronauts will be watching from the ISS as their home countries square off June 26 at Arena Pernambuco in Recife, Brazil.
