Israeli court postpones imprisonment of Olmert

JERUSALEM (AP) — Israel’s Supreme Court has postponed the start of former Prime Minister Ehud Olmert’s prison sentence pending appeal on his conviction on corruption charges.

Court spokeswoman Shirli Koren says Monday’s decision allows Olmert to remain free until a ruling on his appeal is made. That decision is expected within three months.

The 68-year-old Olmert was sentenced to six years in prison in May for his role in a bribery scheme involving a controversial Jerusalem housing project.

Olmert served as prime minister between 2006 and 2009.
