New outdoorsman’s destination creates jobs in Woodbridge

WASHINGTON — There’s a new destination for outdoorsmen in Woodbridge,
Virginia
that’s creating a lot of buzz and jobs in the area.

Cold temperatures didn’t keep hundreds of fisherman, campers and hunters from
making the trek to the new Gander Mountain outdoor store in Woodbridge.

The building takes up half the space of the old General Dynamics building on
Worth Road.

“The sheer size of the store is different. Our average store is 50 to 70,000
square feet. This one is 80,000,” Pegram says.

The chain, which sells hunting, camping, fishing, firearms, apparel and some
gifts is geared toward the outdoor lover. Something that this area has been
missing.

“Too get to a place like this you had to go to Fredericksburg, Winchester or
down
below
Richmond or into Maryland to get this much hunting equipment,” says David
Bennett who was shopping for his next hunting trip with his sons.

“I mean, kids grow. So every season we have to make sure the hunting gear
still
fits and this is perfect for us,” he says.

Gregory Smith, 19, shopped with his stepfather Tuesday ahead of their hunting
trip
this weekend.

“I was more excited that they were close enough to our house instead of having
to go ‘umps’ amount of miles all the way down to Bass Pro Shop,” Smith says.
