Prince William police charge 68 in drug sting

WASHINGTON – Police in Prince William County charged 68 men and women last week in connection with a drug investigation.

Police from the county plus Manassas City and Manassas Park focused on heroin and prescription drug dealing. The investigation began in April.

Those charged between June 24 and June 26 face charges of distribution or possession of a narcotic. One woman faces a prostitution charge. Another 18 men and woman face related charges but have not yet been arrested.

Search warrants were served at 13 locations and the investigation led to searches at six other sites. Police confiscated more than $100,000 in cash plus heroin, cocaine, ecstasy, marijuana and prescription medications. Multiple handguns, shotguns and rifles were also found.

The investigation was called Dragon Slayer and was a follow up to a similar investigation last year, which resulted in 40 arrests and seven search warrants.

Those arrested were provided information about substance abuse counseling.

Police urge residents with medication that is no longer needed to contact their doctor or pharmacist for advice on properly disposing of the drugs.
