WASHINGTON – An 18-year-old was injured in a robbery and shooting in Fairfax County Wednesday night.
At about 9 p.m., officers responded to a call about gun shots on Tovito Drive in Mantua. After investigating the incident, police say a 17-year-old boy was approached by four people he knew, who demanded that he give them his cell phone. A fifth person remained in a nearby vehicle.
After the boy handed over the phone, the five people confronted another 17-year-old boy that they knew, according to police. The second boy pulled out a handgun and fired it at the five people, who fled.
One of the five people, an 18-year-old man, was hurt in the shooting. He went to Inova Fairfax Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The 17-year-old who police say fired the handgun was arrested and taken to the Fairfax County Juvenile Detention Center. He has been charged with malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
Police are still investigating the robbery.
