Former head of Air Force sexual assault prevention stands trial

Tuesday - 11/12/2013, 1:28pm  ET

WASHINGTON -- An Air Force officer who once led efforts to prevent sexual assaults is standing trial today after a woman says he groped her outside an Arlington bar.

Lt. Col. Jeffrey Krusinksi, who pleaded not guilty, was initially charged with misdemeanor sexual battery after the May 15 incident. Prosecutors have reduced the charge to simple misdemeanor assault and battery.

Shortly after the woman accused Krusinski of touching her breast and buttocks, the Air Force removed him as head of its sexual assault prevention and response unit.

An eight-person jury will hear the case, which is expected to run two to three days.
