7 beauty regimens that don’t break the bank

Beauty can be expensive. Whether it involves going to a spa for a facial or getting a Korean body scrub, professional treatments can cost you a pretty penny. Because of those high costs, many women and men opt to go to the spa only for special occasions. But what if I told you every day could be a spa day and it wouldn’t cost you any more than buying a piece of chocolate?

With the help a kitchen staple, green tea, you can take your beauty regimen to the next level. Ditch those pricey spas and let green tea work its magic from top to bottom. While it’s no secret that green tea is filled with lots of antioxidants and used in many ways, my favorite way is using it as part of an affordable beauty routine. Here are some green tea beauty recipes that you can incorporate into your daily, weekly or monthly regiment:

Green Tea Mask

What you’ll need: green tea bag and rice flour

Place the green tea bag in boiling water and let it steep until it cools down. Measure 4 tablespoons of rice flour into a small bowl. Take the cool tea and slowly add it to the rice flour until the mixture becomes a thick but smooth consistency. It’s now ready to be applied to your face. Make sure your face is clean and that you leave the mask on for at least 15 to 20 minutes. Once you’re done, rinse your face and apply your favorite moisturizer.

Green Tea Scrub

What you’ll need: loose leaf green tea, sugar and coconut oil

Take 1 cup of sugar, 2 tablespoons of green tea leaves and about 1/2 cup of coconut oil. Add it all into the bowl and mix. Once you mix it to the consistency of your liking, you can add it to a small jar or container. When you take your next shower or bath, you can use the scrub to remove any dead skin or to moisturize afterward. It will leave your skin nice and shiny.

Green Tea Cleanser

What you’ll need: green tea, liquid castile soap, coconut oil and peppermint essential oil

Steep the green tea in hot water. While the tea is cooling down, take all the other ingredients (1/4 cup castile soap, 3/4 teaspoon of coconut oil and 8 drops of peppermint essential oil) and mix them into a bowl. Take 1/4 cup of green tea and add it to mixture. Put it all into a squirt bottle and use it as a cleanser. (This recipe was adapted from tiffanylanehandmade.wordpress.com.)

Green Tea Face Cream

What you’ll need: green tea, bees wax, almond oil, coconut oil, rose hip seed oil and lemon oil

Take 1/4 ounce of bees wax, 1 ounce of almond oil, 1 ounce of coconut oil, 1/4 teaspoon of rose hip oil and put everything into a double boiler. Once all the ingredients are melted, open the tea bag and pour the loose leafs into the oil mixture. Add 2 drops of lemon oil to that mixture. Let it sit for 15 minutes. Strain the entire mixture and then use a hand mixer until it achieves a creamy consistency. (Adapted from SayNotSweetAnne.com.)

Green Tea Foot Soak

What you’ll need: 4 green tea bags and peppermint essential oil

Place 4 bags of green tea into boiling water for about 20 to 25 minutes. Let it cool for a little bit and pour it into a bucket. Add 3 to 4 drops of peppermint oil into the bucket. Let you feet soak for about 15 to 20 minutes.

Green Tea Eye Refresher for Under Eye Puffiness

What you’ll need: 2 green tea bags

Place the green tea bags in hot water. After you see the water getting green, take them out. Squeeze some of the water from the tea bags and place them into the freezer. Once they are cool, put them over your puffy eyes. This will help take down any puffiness.

Green Tea Hair Rinse

What you’ll need: green tea leaves, lemon and lemon essential oil

First, grate the zest of a lemon. Add the zest of lemon and 2 cups of water into a pot. Let it boil. Once it starts boiling, add 3 teaspoons of green tea leaves and turn off the gas. Let it cool. Once it is lukewarm temperature, add lemon juice and 15 drops of lemon essential oil. The hair rinse is good for hair growth and dandruff. (Adapted from wildturmeric.net.)
