Wildlife Center of Virginia to release raven

CAPE CHARLES, Va. (AP) — The Wildlife Center of Virginia is set to release a raven that had a feather transplant at Bryan Park in Richmond.

The release will occur Wednesday.

The wildlife center says the raven was captured in early June after being seen in distress for months in Henrico County.

After being admitted to the hospital, veterinary staff found that the raven had large portions of missing feathers. The raven received care during the long process of feather regeneration and vets transplanted intact feathers from donor ravens in Maine and Minnesota.

Center staff have been exercising and observing the raven for several weeks and have determined that the bird is ready to return to the wild.

Since its founding in 1982, the center in Waynesboro has cared for more than 65,000 wild animals.
