University of Virginia to have new legal counsel

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) — The University of Virginia will have new legal counsel in October.

Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring has appointed Virginia State University general counsel Roscoe C. Roberts to the post.

The Daily Progress reports (http://bit.ly/1qoKz2G ) Roberts has served as legal counsel at Virginia State since 2003. At Virginia, he will replace Paul Forch, who retired in August.

Roberts graduated in 1978 from the Marshall-Wythe School of Law at the College of William & Mary. He has served as counsel in Petersburg, Colonial Heights, Hopewell and the counties of Prince George, Dinwiddie, Surry and Charles City.

In 1981, Roberts served as an assistant attorney general for the commonwealth and has served as legal counsel to James Madison University, Christopher Newport University and George Mason University.
