ORLANDO, Fla. – One of the tickets sold in Virginia for the Powerball game Wednesday evening matched all six numbers drawn:
The numbers are 05-27-36-38-41, with 12 as the Powerball.
The player, who bought the ticket in the Richmond metro area, matched all five numbers and won the $217 million jackpot.
The winner can take the jackpot in 30 annual payments or in a one-time cash option of about $136.4 million before taxes, the Virginia Lottery says.
The jackpot must be claimed within 180 days of the drawing.
The lottery says this is second-largest jackpot won in Virginia.
J. R. Triplett of Winchester, Va. won the largest jackpot — $239 million — playing Mega Millions in 2004.
The next Powerball prize goes to an estimated $40 million for Saturday.
Tickets that match the first five numbers, but miss the Powerball, win $1 million each, and there were six of those. They were sold in: Arizona(1), Connecticut(1), Illinois(1), Kentucky(1) and New York(2).
There was one Power Play Match 5 winner in Rhode Island(1).
