WASHINGTON — The oft-quoted Yogi Berra once remarked, “I didn’t really say everything I said.”
That memorable line has now been freshened for the digital age: I didn’t tweet what I tweeted.
D.C. Councilmember Marion Barry, Ward 8, sent out a blast of tweets Tuesday evening, both explaining posts on his account a day earlier while attempting to repair any damage.
“Everyone, please disregard yesterday’s tweets,” the initial post begins. “Those tweets were unauthorized and did not reflect my views.”
The most pointed of Monday’s tweets was directed at D.C. Police:
“So instead of protecting people, I’m advised that @DCPoliceDept called news media to come film my hypoglycemic attack & accident? Sad,” read the post, which has since be deleted.
Barry, a diabetic, had a car accident Saturday after having low blood sugar. A police reported indicated he had been driving on the wrong side of the road.
Barry had neither current registration nor proof of insurance for his 2002 Jaguar, according to the report.
But on Tuesday, he sought to correct the record.
Those who know me easily recognize my voice on Twitter. I don't speak in that manner. Further, I have the utmost respect for DC MPD.

Subsequent tweets praised police and D.C. Fire and EMS, thanking them for their help following his car accident.
The Monday tweet critical of D.C. Police wasn’t the only one deleted.
Others, identifying no one in particular, complained about being criticized.
“Some people will kick you when they feel you are at your weakest,” it said. “They are ruthless for control & wealth under the veil of self-riteousness.”
Another deleted tweet read: “…I will continue to be harassed because I am not a good water ‘boy’ 4 them.Never was.Never will be.I will work 4 my ppl till the day I die.”
