WASHINGTON — As National Geographic celebrates its 125th anniversary, the storied institution is also celebrating women in photography through its new exhibit “Women of Vision: National Geographic Photographers on Assignment,” which opens Thursday.
It features 11 photojournalists and nearly 100 images from all over the world. Topics range from child brides in Yemen to American teens getting pierced.
“The exhibit chronicles the adventures and observations of a new generation of intrepid women photographers through their images and their own voices captured in video interviews and field footage,” National Geographic says in a statement.
The artists also range in age. Kitra Cahana is in her 20s, while veteran photographer Jodi Cobb is in her 60s.
“They’re all terrific and all those photographers are so great in their own way,” says Kathryn Keane, vice president of National Geographic Exhibitions.
