WASHINGTON - Twenty angel statues are now on display at the National Cathedral in honor of the 20 children killed in the Newtown, Conn. shootings.

Each statue in the Children's Chapel stands between 8 and 10 inches tall, has wings made of white feathers and gold halos made of wire.

The Sandy Hook Elementary angels sit in a row on the alter atop clouds made of white cotton "as if on clouds in Heaven, representing the idea that they are on their way somewhere safe together," says Linda Roeckelein, head of the Cathedral's 100 member volunteer Altar Guild.

They were made of paper doilies as if done as crafts by a child in school, Roeckelein says.

The design of the Children's Chapel is to scale for six-year-old children, complete with child-sized chairs, an organ, and metalwork.

The angels will be on display until Jan. 6, 2013.
