Chance for Life: Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month

Cancer is the second leading cause of death in children ages one to 14 and only 4% of federal cancer research funding is dedicated to childhood cancers each year. Alexandria-based nonprofit Chance for Life has raised $6.5 million to date to combat pediatric cancer, donating 100% of its turnkey event’s net proceeds to Children’s National Health System and Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation. The local network working for a worldwide cure supports life-saving cancer research and treatment. Earlier this year, it was announced that the first Chance for Life funded clinical trial reached FDA approval and is enrolling patients.

This September is Pediatric Cancer Awareness Month and there are a number of ways for the public to get involved:

  • Harris Teeter is donating a portion of all sales from local stores during the month up to $25,000.
  • During September, guests can add a dollar donation to every purchase at The Wharf’s newest Italian deli and salad shop, Grazie Grazie.
  • During September, modern custom suit menswear brand, KnotStandard will donate a portion of sales to support Chance for Life’s research efforts.
  • Text CFLSEP to 555888 today to join the fight and give children a Chance of Life. When you donate $25 dollars or more you will receive a free Lava Wax car wash at any Mr. Wash Car Wash location.
