CHESTERFIELD, Va. (AP) — Police in Virginia are investigating the death of a baby boy whose remains were found in a residential area.
Chesterfield County police Capt. Jay Thornton said in a news release Monday that the remains of a male infant were found Thursday while officers were working to serve outstanding warrants. News outlets report the body was discovered in the Ettrick community, about 25 miles (40 kilometers) south of Richmond.
The statement says officers learned infant remains may have been recently buried at the location. The remains were recovered by investigators and taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for an autopsy.
The infant hasn’t been identified. Police say the investigation is ongoing.
