New health center opens for state employees in Virginia

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — State employees in Virginia are getting access to new health services in Richmond.

Gov. Terry McAuliffe announced the opening of the Capital Square Healthcare for State Employees on Monday.

The health center in the James Monroe Building will treat employees and early retirees who are enrolled in a statewide health plan for things like headaches, sore throats and other illnesses or injuries.

The governor’s office says the center has a full-time medical director and five-person staff. Employees will also have access to a health coach.

The health center will be open during the work week from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. It will be closed on state holidays.

McAuliffe says he hopes the new center “will help employees take better care of themselves.”
