OTTAWA, Ontario (AP) — Noah Dobson scored the tiebreaking goal in the second period and the New York Islanders beat the Ottawa Senators 4-2 Monday night for their ninth win in 11 games.
Oliver Wahlstrom, Jean-Gabriel Pageau and Brock Nelson also scored, and Mathew Barzal had two assists for the Islanders in the opener of a four-game road trip. Semyon Varlamov stopped 36 shots to win for the third time in his last four starts.
Claude Giroux had a goal and an assist, Drake Batherson also scored and Tim Stutzle added two assists for the Senators. Cam Talbot finished with 31 saves as Ottawa fell to 1-7-1 in their last nine games.
HURRICANES 3, BLACKHAWKS 0
CHICAGO (AP) — Rookie Pyotr Kochetkov made 27 saves for his first career shutout to lead Carolina.
Jordan Martinook and Jordan Staal each had a goal and an assist for Carolina, Andrei Svechnikov scored his team-leading 12th goal, and Brent Burns had two assists.
Kochetkov wasn’t heavily tested, but made some timely close-in stops in his second start this season and fifth game of his career. The 23-year-old Kochetkov is the first goalie in Hurricanes/Hartford Whalers franchise history to win his first five games.
Petr Mrazek stopped 29 shots as the Blackhawks were blanked for the third time this season.
BLUES 3, AVALANCHE 2
DENVER (AP) — Brandon Saad scored a quirky goal in the second period to break a tie, Jordan Binnington stopped 45 shots and St. Louis weathered a late 6-on-3 situation to beat Colorado.
Robert Thomas and Jordan Kyrou also scored for the Blues, who had their moms join them on the trip.
Mikko Rantanen and Artturi Lehkonen had goals for a banged-up Avalanche team that had won four in a row. Alexandar Georgiev stopped 36 shots.
Cale Makar had two assists to give him 198 career points in 192 games. He’s trying to become the quickest defenseman to reach 200 points in NHL history.
FLAMES 6, KINGS 5
CALGARY, Alberta (AP) — Tyler Toffoli and Elias Lindholm each had a goal and two assists, Adam Ruzicka added a goal and an assist, and Calgary held on to beat Los Angeles.
Jonathan Huberdeau, Andrew Mangiapane and Brett Ritchie also scored to help the Flames win their second straight after a seven-game skid (0-5-2). Nazem Kadri had two assists and Jacob Markstrom finished with 24 saves.
Arthur Kaliyev scored twice, Kevin Fiala had a goal and an assist, and Adrian Kempe and Anze Kopitar also scored for the Kings, who had won four straight. Drew Doughty had two assists and Jonathan Quick finished with 23 saves.
Markstrom preserved the win with a sprawling save on a shot by Kopitar from 10 feet out with 22 seconds remaining.
