(NEW YORK) — Tinder has upped the age limit for those using the dating app.
The company’s vice president of communications says from now on, users will have to be at least 18 years old to log on.
Before, Tinder allowed anyone 13 and over to use the app. However, 13- to 17-year-olds had their own section where they could only match with one another, as opposed to the entire pool of users.
“On a platform that has facilitated over 11 billion connections, we have the responsibility of constantly assessing our different user experiences,” Tinder said in a statement to TechCrunch. “Consistent with this responsibility, we have decided to discontinue service for under 18 users. We believe this is the best policy moving forward.”
The company says the change will go into effect next week. Some argue that younger kids will still use the app and just lie about their ages.
