NEEDS: The Chargers have already been one of the more active teams during the offseason, with most of their moves geared toward upgrading a defense that was 19th overall last year and third-worst against the run. General manager Tom Telesco will send two draft picks to the Chicago Bears for premier edge rusher Khalil Mack and has agreed to a five-year, $82.5 million contract with cornerback J.C. Jackson that includes $40 million guaranteed. The Chargers have also agreed to terms with defensive tackles defensive tackles Sebastian Joseph-Day and Austin Johnson. Telesco also was able to re-sign WR Mike Williams to a three-year contract, avoiding the use of the franchise tag. The $60 million deal ($40 million guaranteed) has a $14 million cap number for 2022. With third-year quarterback Justin Herbert still on his rookie deal, the Chargers will continue to look at increasing depth on defense, as well as shore up the right side of the offensive line.
