The Phoenix-based company said it had profit of $1.63 per share. Earnings, adjusted for asset impairment gains, were $1.58 per share.
The results topped Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of 12 analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $1.37 per share.
The waste management company posted revenue of $4.05 billion in the period, which did not meet Street forecasts. Nine analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $4.08 billion.
For the year, the company reported profit of $2.04 billion, or $6.49 per share. Revenue was reported as $16.03 billion.
Republic Services expects full-year earnings in the range of $6.82 to $6.90 per share, with revenue in the range of $16.85 billion to $16.95 billion.
