On a per-share basis, the Secaucus, New Jersey-based company said it had profit of $1.95. Earnings, adjusted for one-time gains and costs, came to $2.23 per share.
The results exceeded Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of 10 analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for earnings of $2.19 per share.
The medical laboratory operator posted revenue of $2.62 billion in the period, which also topped Street forecasts. Nine analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $2.57 billion.
For the year, the company reported profit of $866 million, or $7.69 per share. Revenue was reported as $9.87 billion.
Quest Diagnostics expects full-year earnings in the range of $9.55 to $9.80 per share, with revenue in the range of $10.7 billion to $10.85 billion.
