On a per-share basis, the Watertown, Massachusetts-based company said it had a loss of 58 cents.
The results did not meet Wall Street expectations. The average estimate of four analysts surveyed by Zacks Investment Research was for a loss of 55 cents per share.
The drug delivery technology company posted revenue of $9.5 million in the period, which also missed Street forecasts. Three analysts surveyed by Zacks expected $11.6 million.
