Hook Hall team planning new pickleball and roller-skating venue in Northeast D.C.

The team behind entertainment venues including Hook Hall and Kraken Axes is branching out into the pickleball business.

Kraken Kourts LLC has inked a deal to open a roughly 70,000-square-foot complex at MRP Realty’s Bryant Street development in Northeast D.C., where it will join a growing roster of tenants including Alamo Drafthouse Cinema, F-45 Training, MetroBar and District Dogs, among others. The planned venue, to include 16 pickleball courts, a tavern and an indoor skating rink, is slated to open in January at the former Forman Mills store space at 514 Rhode Island Ave NE.

Anna Valero and her restaurant management company, Pirate Ventures, has shown a willingness to try out new concepts and platforms, including a plans for an eatery and programming at Franklin Park in downtown D.C.
