Bowser issues citywide curfew following Capitol invasion

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser has instituted a citywide curfew from 6 p.m. Wednesday to 6 a.m. Thursday. The announcement came as a mob backing President Donald Trump’s baseless claims of election fraud clashed with police and breached the U.S. Capitol on Wednesday afternoon.

According to the curfew order, no one other than those designated by the mayor “shall walk, bike, run, loiter, stand or motor by car or other mode of transport” upon any streets, parks or other public places.

The curfew order does not apply to essential workers, including credentialed media, as well as travel for essential work.

“The behavior that we are witnessing is shameful, unpatriotic and, above all, it is unlawful,” Bowser told reporters. “Anyone who has engaged in these activities or continues to engage in these activities will be held accountable.”
