The National Cherry Blossom Festival was one of the first major events in the District to be canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic this year. While the public health crisis has already altered plans for next year’s iteration, there’s already a new sponsor in the fold.
Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) will join the festival’s leadership circle for next year’s event, joining Events D.C. as a top-level sponsor. Formerly, Japanese airline ANA had held that lead sponsorship for four years. The coronavirus pandemic has since battered the airline industry due to restrictions on air travel.
“I am especially excited about the innovative spirit that Amazon brings to the festival family as we reimagine new ways to unite the region, small businesses, restaurants and others that will play such a key role in the region’s economic recovery in the coming year,” Diana Mayhew, president and CEO of the National Cherry Blossom Festival, said in a statement.
