Columbia’s Merriweather District attracts more D.C.-area restaurants

Three restaurants with roots in the D.C. region and Greater Baltimore are headed to the Merriweather District in Columbia.

Developer Howard Hughes Corp. said Monday that pizzeria Matchbox, global fusion eatery Clove and Cardamom, and Thai restaurant Dok Khao Thai Eatery will be the latest dining concepts to join the fast-growing neighborhood near Merriweather Post Pavilion.

The new Matchbox restaurant will be the 13th location for the D.C.-based wood-fired pizza chain and the fourth in Maryland. The Columbia eatery will measure 5,000 square feet with seating for 150 people, and will open up onto Color Burst Park, a new pedestrian zone.

The pizzeria, slated to open in summer 2020, will also serve dishes like mini burgers and shrimp and grits, as well as a weekend “Brunchbox” menu with unlimited small plates and cocktails like Blooody Marys, peach bellinis and mimosas.
