CBRE recruits suburban Maryland team

CBRE (NYSE: CBRE) has recruited a team of of commercial real estate veterans from Avison Young as it seeks to bolster its presence in suburban Maryland.

The trio of Niel Beggy, Brian McCarthy and Tim Connolly brokered about 1.65 million square feet of lease deals in the past three years and represented tenants and landlords that include Holy Cross Health and PNC. They moved from Avison Young to CBRE Sept. 30, with Beggy and McCarthy being named senior vice presidents and Connolly a vice president at their new firm.

Beggy, in an interview, said the time seemed right to move to the publicly traded commercial real estate services firm as landlords across suburban Maryland struggle to retain and attract new tenants to new construction in places like downtown Bethesda.

“When you’re in sales, and you’ve got your pulse on the market, you know where the opportunities lie,” Beggy said. “For street brokers like us, challenge is opportunity. We see a lot of repurposing of real estate and we see…
