With Nats reaching the World Series, we take a look at D.C.’s top-paid athletes this year

There’s a lot of turnover on our list of D.C.’s highest-paid sports stars.

Gone from last year’s list are Matt Niskanen, Tanner Roark, Otto Porter (2018’s top-paid local athlete) and some guy named Bryce. In their place, we have new entrants like Patrick Corbin, Thomas Bryant and Brandon Scherff.

But such is the world of pro sports, where team executives shake up rosters and high-profile free agents make splashy moves (that Bryce guy again) on the regular.

And we can expect plenty of changes in the year ahead, as rumors abound about the future of Washington Wizards star Bradley Beal, while Scherff plays out the final year of his rookie contract with Washington’s NFL team. And two of the Washington Nationals’ biggest stars — pitcher Stephen Strasburg (opt-out clause) and third baseman Anthony Rendon (unrestricted free agent) — could find themselves on new teams next year.
