2U has a new CFO — and he’s from NeuStar

Education technology firm 2U Inc. (NASDAQ: TWOU) said Wednesday it has hired former NeuStar Chief Financial Officer Paul Lalljie as its new CFO.

The new hire comes less than two months after the company announced the retirement of its long-serving CFO Catherine Graham, who will continue to serve as a strategic adviser. Lalljie took over the post, effective Monday, according to a Securities and Exchange Commission filing.

For a publicly traded company that is pivoting on its business model and looking for an experienced CFO to guide it down different paths, Lalljie certainly fits that bill for 2U. Lalljie was NeuStar’s CFO and senior vice president from June 2009 to February 2018, a period in which NeuStar made more than a dozen acquisitions as it attempted to shift away from its legacy business, a $500 million annual number portability contract that had been its key source of revenue until it lost that contract in 2015.
