Evan Burfield, a co-founder and former CEO of tech incubator 1776, has left his position as CEO of startup community platform Union, he confirmed in an email.
Burfield launched Union in October 2017 as a spinout of 1776 after developing that software in house. The spinout was announced the same day the company officially announced it had been acquired by then Philadelphia-based coworking network Benjamin’s Desk. Burfield’s departure was first noticed by tech blogger and executive coach Glen Hellman.
Garrett Johnson, director of product and growth, now serves as the new CEO of Union, Burfield said.
“While I am stepping away as CEO, I will remain a part of Union and its growth as a close advisor to Garrett and will remain a member of the board. Personally, I’m looking forward to spending more time with my family and exploring some new opportunities,” Burfield said in an emailed statement.
