Discovery moving some operations to Virginia from Tennessee

Discovery Inc. (NASDAQ: DISCA) is moving its prerecorded transmission operations from Knoxville, Tennessee, to its hub in Sterling, according to the Knoxville News Sentinel.

“We expect this transfer to be complete by the end of January 2019,” Discovery Chief Technology Officer John Honeycutt wrote in a July 20 memo obtained by the News Sentinel. “All employees affected by this decision have been notified. I want to take this opportunity to share my appreciation for the many colleagues who are impacted by this decision.”

Discovery declined to discuss any layoffs associated with the move to the News Sentinel. It is unclear how many jobs with move to Virginia.

The shifting of operations comes as Discovery — formerly known as Discovery Communications — works to integrate its existing staff with that of Knoxville-based Scripps Networks Interactive Inc., the cable company it purchased in March for $14.6 billion.
