Cybersecurity Category Winner: Wayne Jackson, Sonatype
In 2008, the concept of “open source” and community development was gaining steam. Soon after, and despite potential risks, commercial organizations began embracing open source to accelerate the pace of application development. That’s where Sonatype CEO Wayne Jackson saw an opportunity — and why he set out to invent a collection of tools that would help organizations automatically harness all the good in open source software, without any of the risk.
This idea of automated open source governance is what fuels Sonatype today. Under Wayne’s direction, Sonatype patented and launched the Nexus platform — composed of the Nexus Repository, Nexus Lifecycle and Nexus Firewall products — which is used by more than 10 million developers to automatically govern the quality of open source components that organizations are consuming in support of their mission-critical applications.
