Thief steals purses and wallets in churches

CENTREVILLE, Va. – Someone is sneaking into local churches during Sunday services and stealing purses and wallets.

The thief has hit at least 10 suburban churches in Maryland and Virginia since September.

Local law enforcement agencies are working together to try to find the culprit, Centreville Patch reports.

Centreville United Methodist Church was targeted twice.

The church spent $4,500 to replace locks. It now has ushers on patrol in the church hallways.

Police say the thief is a heavyset, white woman with brown hair and a pear-shaped build.
