Police searching for Va. man missing since July

WASHINGTON – A Virginia man has been missing for five months and Fairfax County Police are asking for the public’s help.

Oscar Velasco Montano, 30, was last seen July 9 near the 1800 block of International Drive in the Tysons Corner area, police say. His family reported him missing two days later.

“It first looked like he was just gone and there was nothing to suggest foul play,” says Officer Tawny Wright. “Recently, certain details have been discovered that now suggest something suspicious has happened to him.”

Wright says detectives have been working around the clock on the case since July, reviewing hundreds of hours of videotape and interviewing countless people, including family and co-workers.

Wright would not go into details about what led police to believe Velasco Montano is missing under suspicious circumstances.

Detectives determined Velasco Montano had connections in Hyattsville, Md. His cell phone was later recovered in an undisclosed location in Maryland, Wright says.

Police have conducted several searches related to Velasco Montano’s disappearance, she says.

Velasco Montano, who works in construction, was leaving a work site when he was last seen the afternoon of July 9.

“It’s unusual for him to drop off the face of the earth,” Wright says.

Velasco Montano, who lived in Springfield with his family, also played soccer and was close to his family, she says.

Police recovered Velasco Montano’s car in the same area he went missing, shortly after his disappearance. Police found nothing in the car and returned it to Velasco Montano’s family.

Family and friends have started a Facebook page for Velasco Montano.

Police are asking anyone with information about Velasco Montano’s disappearance or whereabouts to contact Crime Solvers by phone at 1-866-411-TIPS/8477, email or text “TIP187” plus your message to CRIMES/274637 or call Fairfax County Police at 703-691-2131.
