Northern Virginia made Amazon’s short list? But of course, say local business leaders.

The timing of Amazon Inc.’s announcement couldn’t have been more perfect if the Northern Virginia Chamber of Commerce had planned it.

Just as a group of experts began discussing the region’s ambitions at the chamber’s economic development conference Thursday morning, Mary-Claire Burick of the Rosslyn Business Improvement District broke the news to the audience: Northern Virginia made the short list in the e-commerce giant’s search for a second headquarters.

And while her announcement was met with applause, the crowd of several hundred seemed a bit, well … unflapped.

Of course, Amazon (NASDAQ: AMZN) would recognize Northern Virginia’s value in the region, several attendees in the crowd said.
