(PIGEON FORGE, Tenn.) — Roller coaster enthusiasts may be headed to Dollywood next spring.
On Friday, Dollywood announced they will soon have the world’s fastest wooden coaster and the world’s first wood-launching coaster.
In an event at the park, Dolly Parton was on hand to help announce the $22 million project, calling it the “biggest ride announcement…in the history of Dollywood.”
Themed after a hot rod from the 1950’s, Lightning Rod will be 20 stories high reaching a top speed of 73 miles per hour. Dollywood visitors will be able to experience the coaster in March 2016.
“A little less than one-third of the ride your seat’s going to be off the seat,” says Dollywood Director of Media and Public Relations Pete Owens.
“You know I’m not gonna ride that thing,” Parton joked. “I got too much to lose, like I said, I like my hair.”
Dollywood hosts 2.5 million visitors a year, according to ABC News affiliate WLOS-TV, and many visitors are excited to try out the ride.
“We love Dollywood so of course I’m sure we’ll be one of the first to ride it,” David Stewart, a visitor from Knoxville, told WLOS-TV.
The coaster is a part of the theme park’s $300 million expansion plan. Last year, Dollywood welcomed the FireChaser Express roller coaster as a part of that plan.
