BALTIMORE (AP) — A Baltimore man has been sentenced to 75 years in prison for his role in a gun battle that killed a 7-year-old girl.
The Baltimore Sun reports that Keon Gray was sentenced Friday after being convicted in August of second-degree murder in the 2018 death of Taylor Hayes.
Prosecutors said Gray was driving a Mercedes when he engaged in a wild shootout with a man riding in a Honda Accord. The girl was riding in the back of the Honda. The fatal bullet went through the trunk of the car before striking the girl and killing her.
Judge Althea Handy told Gray he made the streets of Baltimore “a killing zone” by firing the shots.
Prosecutors had asked for a 165-year sentence. Gray’s lawyer asked for 30 years.
