Man wanted in wife’s Baltimore stabbing death turns self in

BALTIMORE (AP) — A Maryland man who turned himself in to police in New York state will be charged in his wife’s death.

Citing Baltimore police, news outlets report that 39-year-old Amit Kumar turned himself in to authorities in DeWitt, New York, on Sunday. Baltimore police spokeswoman Chakia Fennoy had said Saturday that Kumar was a person of interest to detectives in his wife’s stabbing death.

The 39-year-old woman was found with multiple stab wounds in their home on Friday evening, and was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name has not yet been released.

Authorities say Kumar is also wanted on an outstanding theft warrant that’s unrelated to the woman’s death.

He’ll be formally charged with first-degree murder when he’s extradited back to Baltimore. It’s unclear whether he has a lawyer.
